[FREE!] Japanese Culture Exhibit & Quiz

While many of Japanese condiments are now mass-produced, during the Edo period, vinegar, soy sauce, miso, mirin, and sake were traditionally brewed in wooden barrels.

Although their numbers have dwindled, there are condiments still made in wooden barrels today. Often referred to as traditionally-made condiments, they are unique due to the beneficial microbes, including Japanese national mold koji, lactic acid bacteria, and acetic acid bacteria. Even a small amount enhances flavors and promotes health. Each has a distinctive taste, adding to their charm.

We will show you various brewing places from across Japan through photos and videos and display dozens of bottles of vinegar and soy sauce collected from 100 breweries across the country.

Furthermore, there will be several quizzes related to these condiments. We prepare treats for those who get all the answers right! Challenge yourself and become a master of Japanese culture!

Additionally, we have a Showa retro booth replicating common Showa-era scenes, and a space where you can play with nostalgic toys in the Showa era. A baby space is also available.
