Meet at the exit of Keihan Fushimi-Momoyama Station. (There is only one exit, so please rest assured.) The large shopping street that continues from Fushimi-Momoyama Station is the beloved “Ote-suji Shopping Street” by the residents. Please enjoy the local lifestyle in Fushimi and wait until everyone is assembled.

Ozoni, an indispensable dish for Japanese New Year, varies in appearance and flavor depending on the region, with many lesser-known variations. Miso, a fermented food, is commonly used in the majority of ozoni recipes, and each homemade version is unique. In this tasting workshop, we have carefully selected five varieties from over 100 visited sake breweries nationwide, allowing you to savor and appreciate their distinct charms.

Creating a Japanese menu that highlights the characteristics of miso through tasting, with a focus on “Kyoto-style Ozoni” enjoyed predominantly in Kyoto from among the diverse ozoni varieties found across the country. While miso is delicious on its own, it is also a versatile seasoning that complements various Japanese cooking methods. 13:15 Stroll through the streets of Fushimi in Kyoto.

We will proceed to the mochi-pounding experience location on foot. Along the way, we’ll visit impressive sake brewery photo spots that are often utilized for picturesque shots of traditional houses and media coverage. As we head to our destination, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the everyday life of Fushimi residents while enjoying the scenic surroundings, making for great photo opportunities.


13:30 From Steaming Glutinous Rice! Authentic Mochi-Pounding Experience

Experience the traditional New Year’s tradition of “mochi-tsuki” at Hikari Mochi Nakamura Honpo. From the initial process of steaming glutinous rice to shaping and tasting, you will have the opportunity to participate in the entire mochi-making process. Unlike machine-made mochi, the freshly pounded mochi made with traditional mortar and pestle has a special quality. Moreover, you can savor the elasticity and sweetness of the highest-grade variety, “Shiga Hafukinuno,” used in the mochi rice.


15:00 Disband at Keihan Nakashojima Station.

After thoroughly enjoying the authentic mochi-pounding experience, we will provide transportation to Nakashojima Station. Following that, you can choose to explore the Fushimi sake brewery district on your own, relax at your hotel, or whatever suits your preferences. Take your time and savor the charm of Fushimi in Kyoto until your schedule allows.
