2.Making Japanese Tofu

Japanese Tofu

Tofu, which was introduced from China, is now It is also one of Japan’s representative traditional foods. And popular around the world as a healthy food.

As of 2023, although many tofus are produced by machines, the flavor of handmade tofu made from soybeans is exceptionally superior.

The charm of handmade tofu is that it can be deliciously enjoyed on its own, even without soy sauce or bonito flakes.

Even the instructor, who had only ever eaten machine-made tofu before, vividly remembers being astonished by the deliciousness of handmade tofu when they tried it for the first time.

Even in Japan, where tofu has been made for decades, it is difficult for tofu shops to produce the same tofu every day.

Even with the same ingredients, the finished appearance and taste can vary depending on the maker, which is quite profound.

These aspects are also reasons why people are drawn to tofu.

Soy beans

The tofu sold outside of Japan is almost like a different entity compared to Japanese tofu, and therefore it’s consumed in different ways.

During the tofu workshop, there will be time for the tofu to set, and in the meantime, we will discuss:

●The history of tofu
●The differences between tofu inside and outside of Japan
●The differences in the soybeans used as ingredients
●How tofu is consumed in Japan

We will share as much as possible about Japan’s tofu food culture within the given time for you to fully enjoy.

Then, once it’s ready, everyone will partake in the tofu made together and the mixed rice prepared “takikomu gohan” by the instructor.

Of course, the tofu will be enjoyed as is. Afterwards, we will also have fun learning how to eat tofu in ways that bring out its umami and sweetness.

Even if you are a beginner in cooking, you can easily make tofu, so please feel free to join us with confidence. The content is simple enough that even a first-grader can make it on their own.

We will also provide you with an English recipe, so as long as you have the ingredients, you can make it as many times as you want at home.

Why not try making authentic Japanese tofu and immerse yourself in the food culture of tofu?
